5 Social Media Marketing Trends For 2015

5 Social Media Marketing Trends for 2015

Hard to believe it, but December has arrived yet again — which means lots of year-end lists and predictions for the year to come.

Nothing changes more rapidly than social media, what with the new platforms, new privacy policies, new venues for storytelling (yes, even Snapchat), and the ability to more effectively flag and report your worst trolls.

So what’s next for social media? The social team at Chicago-based marketing comms agency JSH&A has created an infographic for your review.

JSH&A has thoughts on its homepage, and we thought we’d add some of our own. First, the graphic:

In short:

  • Facebook is now officially Old School, but we expect an even bigger “Do you miss that reach?” sales push on paid posts this year.
  • The “brands trying to one-up each other in responding to cultural events” trend will begin to die down as Oreo-style messages fail to prove ROI.
  • We HOPE that the entire content marketing sphere will finally realize that quality really is more important than quantity.
  • YouTube challengers beyond Vimeo, etc. will rise as delivery devices for video content grow less and less important.
  • The whole enterprise will get a lot more expensive.
  • In light of that fact, measurement will become even more crucial to every social project.

Much of this news sounds bad, but is it, really?

Last week we ran a post on 10 common client delusions about social media. Hopefully, as these trends start to look less like predictions and more like established patterns, our conversations with clients confused about social can stop being polite…and start getting real.
